Hand clearing can be the right scope for steps, thresholds, narrow walkways, and small areas where access is more important than machine work. Describe the route and the people using it before asking for a quote.
Name the small areas that are easy to miss
Include front steps, side entrances, paths to bins, porch edges, ramps, and the space around gates. If a route connects to a shared entrance, say who uses it and how much access matters.
Explain the surface and access
A narrow passage, uneven edge, garden border, parked car, or gate can change how a provider approaches the work. Photos may help later, but a plain-language description is a useful first step.
Ask what “cleared” means
Before accepting a service, ask whether the scope includes only moving fresh snow or also attention to compacted areas, path edges, or material use. Keep expectations specific rather than relying on a broad service label.
